Congratulations to Byrd's quiz bowl teams that competed at Dutchtown's academic tournament on February 17th. The A team finished 2nd while the B team tied for 5th out of 24 teams. Team members were: Cade Crandall, Von Klotzbach, Tyler Spivey, Dylan Tynes, Laura Derbonne, Lauren Johnson, Wyatt McCrary, Madison Huckaby, Levi Mayeux, Gracie Gotberg, Madeline Mackey, and Morgan Brown.
Congratulations to Logan McLain for placing third overall in the "Valley of the Sun" bicycle stage race. This is a national level race that is called a national selection race. This win allows him to go to Europe this summer for three weeks with USA Cycling! Congratulations!
Wrestling News: Congratulations to sophomore Demitri Teddlie who placed 6th and made the podium for D-1! Sophomores Jacob Blaze Yawn and Cameron Vaughns, and junior Cordre Tolliver, placed 1st in each of their weight classes in Sulphur this weekend!
Megan Downey and Sarah Grace Prestwood won 1st place at the state social studies fair last week in Lake Charles. Their group project in political science applied James David Barber's theory to analyze the current royal family of the United Kingdom.

Congratulations to the Youth and Government members who attended the YMCA Youth Legislature Conference. Emily Clarke achieved the highest position by being elected governor. Robert Lawrence was elected as Speaker of the House. Hannah Berry, Gillian Cole, Porter May, and Robert Lawrence all had their bills passed. Everyone worked hard and did an excellent job. Way to make Byrd proud!

Sophomores Austin Mikovich, Kayla Harrison, and Claire White are the 3 C.E. Byrd indoor state meet qualifiers for this Saturday's state championships at LSU-BR. Mikovich qualified in the 1600 & 3200 but had to choose one of the two for the state meet so he will run the 3200. White made it in the 800 and looks to PR this Saturday. Harrison qualified in 3 events (TJ, 60, 400) but will compete in the 60 and the 400.
Congratulations to our HIGHSTEPPERS - they won Best of the Best, Best Overall Presentation and Choreography, Judges' Award for Hip Hop, Pom, and Jazz, and the Dr. Irving Drelbrodt Award for Military in the American Dance and Drill Team Gussie Neil Davis Dance Competition in Kilgore, Texas last weekend!
