Best of luck to our Quiz
Bowl team as they compete in Nationals on May 25-27 in Atlanta! This year will be Byrd's second year in a row to qualify for and attend the High School Nationals Quiz Bowl Tournament in Atlanta, GA, representing our state. Our Quiz Bowl team includes four juniors this year who have continually out-performed almost every other school in the state. Since quiz bowl is a year-round competition, our students have been competing in and winning tournaments since September (Byrd has about 40 students in the Quiz Bowl club, who form teams of 4 students who play at a time. High school and college quiz bowl is an academic trivia competition in which students compete in teams from their schools). Over 100 high schools and colleges in LA participate in quiz bowl. You can see the full list of competitors on laquizbowl.org. Our A team's captain is Dylan Tynes, and the other A team members are Cade Crandall, Tyler Spivey, and Von Klotzbach. Recently, the team placed second in the Louisiana State Championship at Baton Rouge, defeating nearly 40 other public and private schools for the title (we lost narrowly to the team from Jesuit of New Orleans). We have won or been the runner-up in a number of other tournaments this year, including the Tal Atkins tournament at Caddo Magnet (2nd), Menard High School in Alexandria (1st), Captain Shreve (2nd), Louisiana Tech (1st), History Bowl (1st), Neville in Monroe (1st), Dutchtown in Baton Rouge (2nd) , West Monroe (1st), and the State tournament at LSU on March 17th (2nd).
