Congratulations to Byrd wrestling. Over the holidays several wrestler competed in the Trey Cullotta at Brother Martin Tournament. Top finishers and Landers Dodge Athlete of the Week Demetri Teddlie 4th and Jacob Blaze Yawn 6th,, Cameron Vaughns 8th, JW Fuller 9th, Logan Lewis 11th. The team also competed in North Louisiana's largest tournament the Lone Survivor at Parkway. Byrd had 5 wrestlers in the 14 final matches!! The 2018 champs were Demetri Teddlie and Jacob Blaze Yawn. JW Fuller, Cameron Vaughns, and Bailee Creasey 2nd. 4th place Aiden Carinio and Logan Lewis, with Lee Bledsoe and Stan Collins finishing 6th. DeAnthony Taylor 7th , Matt Born and James Rushing 8th . Juniors Teddlie and Yawn are currently ranked 4th, Creasey 6th and Lewis 8th in the D-1 state rankings.
Congratulations to the following "My Louisiana" contest winners: Award of Excellence - Kennedee Harrell, Award of Merit - Keely Mae Hall, and Award of Merit - Matthew Raney. These students will be honored on March 19th at 10:30 am at the Caddo District PTA Awards Ceremony at Captain Shreve High School.
Byrd Quiz Bowl won 1st place at the Quiz Bowl Tournament on Saturday, beating out Texas Math & Science (2nd) and Caddo Magnet (3rd). Byrd took 21 students and five teams total to the match, and the champion team was Dylan Tynes, Cade Crandall, Tyler Spivey, and Von Klotzbach. We have permission slips available for students to pick up in 219b for the tournament in Benton on January 26. Cost is $20 per player.
