Congratulations Kyah Loyd! She was named the LA Mile Split Girls Athlete of the Week after her dominating performance on her home track at the C.E. Byrd Yellow Jacket Relays with two state leading times of 12.00 in the 100 meter dash and 24.69 in the 200 meter dash, while she was just off her existing Louisiana #1 time in the 100 meter hurdles with a 14.48 clocking! The Loyd family says, "Thank you to all for taking your valuable time to vote for Kyah! Every vote is special and means so much!"

Byrd wrestlers competed in the United States Wrestling Association state tournament to determine state champions. Cameron Vaughns won the state championship at 138 pounds. Jacob Blaze Yawn was in the finals and finished runner up in the 132 lb division as did Dimitri Tedlei at 126lbs. James Rushing finished fourth at 2:20, and Bailie Creasey 5th at 182 lbs. Byrd wrestlers Logan Lewis finished seventh at 152, followed by Lee Bledsoe who finished 9th. Kylie Davis had her best showing of the year and competed hard in the 106 division. What a fantastic weekend for these freshmen and the future of Byrd wrestling!!
Congratulations to the 2017 State Academic Decathlon teams! The Varsity team is made of Zach Samuels, who placed 1st in Art, Economic, Mathematics, Music, Social Science, Science, and 3rd place in Literature; Lauren Johnson, who placed 1st in Essay, 2nd in Art and Science, and 3rd in Economics, Music, and Speech; and Natalie Carroll, who placed 3rd in Social Science, Literature, and Interview. The Honors team is made up of Lydia Mills, who placed 2nd in Interview and 3rd in speech; Rex Bryant, who placed 2nd in music, and 3rd in social science and economics; and Olivia Simmons. The Scholastic team is made up of Hanna Laing, who placed 1st in Social Science and Art, 2nd in essay, and 3rd in Music and Science, and; Gabby Dimaio, who placed 2nd in Interview; and Sable Sanders. The Varsity team also placed 1st in Super Quiz overall, and Zach Samuels was Byrd's highest scoring individual overall.
Byrd placed 1st out of 14 teams at the Demon Math Classic at Northwestern. Congratulations to Kara Scott, Andrew Miramon, Justin Friestad, and Eleanor Golson. Also, Eleanor Golson won the individual event.
Carmen Rogers made the State All-Academic Team for Girls Basketball.
