Congratulations to the following Byrd Varsity Girls Soccer players who were named to the LHSAA All State Academic team! Sadie Patton, Summer Netterville, Riley Walker were named to the Composite All State Academic soccer team. Alexis Bogues, Kylee Moore, and Reagan Todd, Emily Witt, Summer Netterville, Sadie Patton, Mallory Wise, and Riley Walker were named to the LHSSA Division 1 All State Academic soccer team. Congratulations Ladies!
Last Saturday at the Sportspectrum Yellow Jacket Relays, the Byrd Track & Field teams produced 15 medals, 12 season bests, 5 PRs, 3 broke a meet record, 1 set a meet record, and 2 school records. One of the highlights was junior Jonnai Jones scoring 26 points and earning the Girls Field event MVP as she outscored every athlete at the meet, male and female. She won gold in the Shot put with her 2nd best toss of the year (35’ 0”). She placed 2nd in the Javelin (103’ 5” PR) and 2nd in the High Jump as well (5’ 0”). Senior LaDann Thomas won the boys 800m in a Meet Record 2:02.33 after splitting 1:56.0 on the victorious Distance Medley Relay (10:46.43 SCHOOL RECORD) on his 800m relay leg. Other members of the winning DMR include Donavon Jackson, Trent Wells, and Allen England. England also ran a season best in the 1600m (4:33.08) for 2nd place after splitting 4:32.55 in the DMR. Both times were under the former 1600m meet record. The boys 4x400 Relay won with the #2 performance in the state in 3:25.03. Relay members include Avaunte Steward, LaDann Thomas, Jaylon Adams, and Donavon Jackson. The girls DMR also set a SCHOOL RECORD in 14:55.08 (Carleigh Kammer, Becca Brown, Bryn Peters, Miranda Milner) placing 3rd. Other athletes that had PRs and contributed to our points total last Saturday were Alissa Lane (100m 12.52), Avaunte Steward (200 22.69), Trent Wells (3200 10:39.69), Jonathan Plaza (Javelin 149’ 7”), and Jarmarsha Huglon (Javelin 126’ 3”).

Congratulations to the Division 1 State Champions in Quiz Bowl. We beat out top teams from over 30 high schools to win the state tournament today in Baton Rouge. Byrd was the only high school to have two top individual scorers: Dylan Tynes and Tyler Spivey. The team is Captain Dylan Tynes, Tyler Spivey, Cade Crandall, Von Klotzbach, and Wyatt McCrary. Coaches are Karin and Stephen Goebel, and this is their second state championship (the last was 2012). This was the seniors last tournament in Louisiana—the very last one will be in May at Nationals in Atlanta. If you or your business would like to sponsor the state champions as they go to Nationals, please contact Karin Goebel as soon as possible.
Byrd Track & Field’s own senior Emily Clarke has been named to the Louisiana All-Academic Composite Girl's Track & Field team. The all-state team will be recognized in May at LSU-BR prior to the state meet. Congrats to Emily!

Byrd took two teams to the Demon Math Classic on Friday and the results were outstanding! In the team competition, we finished first and third. In the individual competition, finished 1st (Dylan Tynes) and 2nd (Gergely Szarvas, a freshman). Both won medals for team MVP. Byrd Purple - First Place: Riley Walker, Jessica Boldenow, Robert Lawrence, Ashlyn Gotberg, Dylan Tynes. Byrd Gold - Third Place: Emma Turner, Andrew Briley, Logan McMullen, Arjun Yusufji, James Rushing, Gergely Szarvas. This is the third year in a row we've won the team competition and the first year we've placed two teams in the top three.
