A HUGE congratulations goes out to the 2017 Byrd Boys Golf Team! They won the Regional Championship Tuesday in Alexandria, La at Links on the Bayou. Competing were Mason Barr, Reed Sikes, Marshall LaBorde, Charlie Flynn, & Payne Johnson. They will compete in the State Championship next Monday and Tuesday May 1-2 in Lafayette, La. Byrd Golf making history as they will be competing for their 4th consecutive win as state champs. STING EM!!!!! Click here for pictures.
The C.E. Byrd track teams collected 10 combined victories at the District 1-5A Championships last Friday and qualified 17 athletes to the Region 1-5A Championships.
The boys team had two golds as freshman Donavan Jackson won the 400m in a huge PR of 50.67. Jackson teamed up with senior Isaiah January, sophomore Zaige Wills, and sophomore LaDann Thomas to win the 4x400 relay in a season best 3:27.29. The boys team finished 4th with 64 points.
The girls team had eight golds for the second week in a row. Senior Kyah Loyd scored 3 individual victories and also ran on the victorious 4x100 relay in 48.25. Other 4x100 relay members include senior Destiny Jones, junior Nia Johnson, and freshman Kayla Harrison. Kayla Harrison also won the 300 hurdles in 46.26 and ran a leg on all 3 victorious relays, the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400. Other 4x200 relay members include Destiny Jones, sophomore Taisheka Porchia, and sophomore Aleceya Harrison. Those same four athletes won the 4x400 relay in 4:01.75. Taisheka Porchia also won the triple jump. The girls team finished second with 125 points.
The following 17 athletes have qualified to this week's Regional meet at NSU. The asterisk (*) represents a #1 seeding: Kyah Loyd (100*, 100h*, 200*, 4x100*), Kayla Harrison (300h*, 4x100*, 4x200*, 4x400), Taisheka Porchia (Triple jump*, 300h, 4x200*, 4x400), Aleceya Harrison (400, 4x200*, 4x400), Destiny Jones (4x100*, 4x200*, 4x400), Nia Johnson (Long jump, triple jump, 4x100*), Jonnai Jones (High Jump), Emily Clarke (Pole vault), Carlos Doss (200, 4x200), LaDann Thomas (800, 4x400), Donavan Jackson (400, 4x200, 4x400), Zaige Wills (4x200, 4x400), Isaiah January (4x200, 4x400), Allen England (1600), Austin Mikovich (3200), Anassas Anderson (Shot put), and Jared Banks (300h).

Byrd Tennis teams placed 2nd at the Regional Tennis Championship! Tess Layton/Anne Deupree: Girls Doubles Regional Runner-Up. Ellis Bryan/Emme Cehajic:Girls Doubles Regional Semi-Finalist. Kameron Myers:Boys Singles Regional Semi-Finalist. Corie Means/Von Klotzbach:Boys Doubles Regional Semi-Finalist. Spencer Kennedy:Boys Singles Regional Quarter-Finalist. All 8 qualify for the State Tennis Championship in Monroe, April 27-28
Last Thursday at the Caddo Parish Track and Field Championships the Boys team placed 4th with 85.5 points and the Girls team placed 2nd with 152 points.
The boys continued to dominate middle and long distance events in the parish. Soph LaDann Thomas won the 800m, soph Allen England won the 1600m, and frosh Austin Mikovich won the 3200m. England and Mikovich led the Jackets in scoring as each scored 18 points. Also senior Carlos Doss had a PR in the 200m and soph Zaige Wills had a PR in the 400m. Also senior Jared Banks PRd in 3 events, 300h, 110HH, and High Jump.
The Lady Jackets won 8 events last Thursday. Senior Kyah Loyd led all scoring with 32.5 as she won 3 individual events (100m, 100h, 200m) and ran a leg on the victorious and now Louisiana #1 ranked 4x100 relay team (Nia Johnson, Loyd, Kayla Harrison, Taisheka Porchia). Among the other victories include frosh Kayla Harrison's Louisiana #1 ranked 300 hurdles PR win as teammate soph Taisheka Porchia finished 2nd with a PR and Louisiana #4 ranking respectively. Soph Aleceya Harrison won the 400m in a new PR. Taisheka Porchia win the triple jump. The 4x400 relay also won with the following athletes: Taisheka Porchia, Aleceya, Destiny Jones, Kayla Harrison.
Currently the Lady Jackets are ranked #1 in Louisiana in 5 events, all classes included. Of every school in the state of Louisiana, C.E. Byrd is the only school with more than 2 LA#1 rankings. Those events are 1) 100m, 2) 100h 3) 300h, 4) 4x100 relay, 5) 4x400 relay.
The District 1-5A meet is next on the schedule this Friday at Lee Hedges stadium.
Congratulations to our winners in the Holocaust Literary Competition: 1st Place - Dylan Tynes; 2nd Place - Cade Crandall; and 3rd Place - Madison Atkinson.
Emily Partin, senior at C.E. Byrd, will be recognized at the School Board meeting Tuesday, April 18 for her accomplishments in archery. She placed 9th out of 20 girls from around the country at the NFAA Indoor Nationals 2017 in Cincinnati, OH. With two days of shooting she scored a combined total of 572 out of a possible 600. She's only been shooting for 4 years and has already accomplished back to back state champion titles for 2016 & 2017. She placed 2nd at the indoor sectionals with a combined score of 578 out of 600. Southern sectionals is a 5 state competition (Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi). She has either won or placed top 5 in every competition for the past 3 years.
