The CE BYRD wrestling team competed in Lafayette this weekend in Jacob McMillan Invitational. 22 of the state's strongest teams were there and Byrd came out 6th with 6 of the 14 weight classes missing 6 along with team points. Finishing 3rd was junior Jacob Blaze Yawn and sophomore J. W. Fuller.finishing 4th were juniors Cameron Vaughns, Logan Lewis, and Bailee Creasey. Sophomores Bobby Simpson 5th and Matt Born 6th. In junior varsity, sophomore Stan Collins finished 1st and junior Kylie Davis 6th. Byrd in a contest last week, won 60-12 against bossier high school and took its first loss to defending state champs and local powerhouse Parkway with only Yawn and Creasey pulling out victories.

Congratulations to Byrd's Quiz Bowl team for finishing 10th overall in the 3-2-1 Online Quiz Bowl competition. They finished 1st out of all schools competing from Louisiana.
Congratulations to Byrd wrestling team. They defeated Haughton 63-16 and Benton 72-9 in a tri meet at Byrd on wed. On Saturday, the wrestling team placed 2nd of 14 teams in the 2018 Evangel Eagle open, despite missing 6 of 14 of the normal starters!! Winning 1st place was Matthew Born, Logan Lewis and Demetri Teddlie who also earned the most outstanding wrestler for the tournament. Finishing 3rd was Kylie Davis, DeAnthony Taylor, and Bobby Ray Simpson, with James Rushing and Stan Collins finishing 4th.
Congratulations to Byrd Youth and Government for doing an amazing job at the YMCA Youth Legislature Conference. Cameron Lorey, Maggie Dinkins, Cade Crandall, Brooks Belanger, Andrew Briley, Matthew Raney, and Tyler Spivey all had their bills passed. Levi Mayeux, Wyatt McCrary, and Cameron Lorey won individual awards for Most Outstanding Bills. Robert Lawrence was selected as House Floor Leader, and Brooks Belanger was selected as Senate Floor Leader for next year's conference. Great job to all who participated!
Congratulations to the C. E. Byrd Wrestling team. In a tri-meet last Thursday the Jackets defeated Huntington 84-0 and Evangel 72-12. Every wrestler received at least one win. Byrd currently has 2 wrestlers in the state's top 5, 4 more in the top 10 with, 4 additionally making the top 20. Come see the greatest D-1 wrestling team Shreveport has ever produced Wednesday, December 5th at 5:30pm in the Byrd gym. The first 100 students with ID get free hot dogs and drinks and $3 entry. This is the last home contest until city championships in January. There is still an opportunity to join the team but you need to act fast. Come down to the wrestling room any day after school and check it out. "After wrestling, everything else is easy!"
