Nylah Tolliver - 5th Performing Arts, Solo, Duo or Trio.
Nylah Tolliver also received a "Golden Ticket" which is an invitation from National Beta to be a performer in the National Convention productions with other Betas from all over the U.S. Everyone did a fantastic job running the Service project room and working for the Convention Planning Committee. There were almost 7,000 Betas in attendance this year and C.E. Byrd Betas stood out!
Congratulations to the Byrd Quiz Bowl team who placed third at the annual Gator Quiz Bowl Tournament at Captain Shreve on Saturday, January 11! Treat Judlin and Arjun Yusufji we’re recognized as the third and fourth top individual scorers. The next quiz bowl tournament is Saturday, January 25 at LSU-Shreveport. Congratulations - C. E. Byrd Youth and Government did amazing at the YMCA Youth Legislature Conference in Baton Rouge. Robert Lawrence and Brooks Belanger served on the State Board as House Floor Leader and Senate Floor Leader. Jalen Kennedy and Faith Thompson had bills passed and signed into law. Dawson Bond and David Shaw had their bill passed, AND it was selected as “Most Outstanding Bill” Dawson Bond was elected as next year’s House Floor Leader. William Bartle had his bill passed AND was elected as next year’s Speaker of the House. GREAT JOB BYRD YAG!!

Congratulations - Byrd Wrestling last week beat Haughton 51-12 and Evangel 59-12 at Home. Byrd also placed 3rd at the Riot on the Red tournament at Pkwy Saturday. Finishing 5th, Lee Bledsoe, 3rd JW Fuller, and in the finals finishing, second Logan Lewis and Cameron Vaughns. Finishing first was Matthew Born, who also won MOW! Demetri Teddlie and Jacob Blaze Yawn continued their undefeated winning streaks and consecutive tournament wins!
Congratulations to the Gusher Yearbook Staff whose 2019 yearbook was named "Best Overall Yearbook" in the state by the Louisiana Scholastic Press Association.
Congratulations to our Wrestling Team members who competed in Baton Rouge this past weekend. They had the most pins in the least amount of time and the best winning percentage over some 30 teams that participated. Lee Bledsoe finished 7th, Matthew Born 4th, while Logan Lewis and J W Fuller finished 3rd. Cameron Vaughn wrestled up 2 weight classes finishing 2nd. Demetri Teddlie beat the number 2 in his weight class on his way to winning first, and Jacob Yawn beat two number 2 ranked wrestlers and then a defending state champ in the finals on his way to winning it all! Demetri is currently ranked 2nd and Jacob is ranked 1st! We are so proud of you all!

Congratulations to Ceara Johnson who has won the DAR Good Citizens Essay Contest at the Chapter Level and will move up for judging in the District level. The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens essay contest recognizes individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Each school may choose only one student to compete. Ceara will be honored in April at a luncheon with other schools' DAR nominees and the DAR committee members. Ceara is a phenomenal student who has previously won the NCTE Achievement Awards in writing, and she represents our school, our community, and nation with dignity and decorum.
