The deadline to register for the September 14th administration of the ACT is this Friday, August 30th. Fifty homecoming tickets will be given away to juniors who take the ACT on this date or have already taken the ACT.
Juniors – There will be a Junior Class meeting on Tuesday, September 3rd in the auditorium. Time will be announced later.
Byrd High School will host a meeting with parents and students on September 4th concerning the selective college admission process. This presentation is for students considering selective or private colleges. Mr. Jason Tynes will present to families of juniors at 5 PM and senior families at 6 PM in the Learning Center.
Senator Bill Cassidy will be hosting a Service Academy Day event with Senator John Kennedy and Congressmen Ralph Abraham and Mike Johnson on Saturday, September 7th in the Cypress Room of the Bayou Pointe Event Center at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. At the event, we will have presentations from representatives of America’s Service Academies, including West Point, the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy. They will be discussing the opportunities available at these Academies, which include free college educations and commissioned officer slots in our Armed Forces. Staff representing Senators Cassidy and Kennedy and Congressmen Abraham and Johnson will also be discussing their nominations process, as students are required to receive a nomination to attend a Service Academy.
PSAT – The PSAT will be given at Byrd on Wednesday, October 30th. This is a College Board exam which gives 10th and 11th grade students an opportunity to check their progress towards college readiness. It also provides practice for the SAT. For 11th grade students, PSAT scores are used to screen for candidates for the National Merit Scholarship Program Competition. Participation in PSAT testing is voluntary. Students planning to test must register by paying the $17 test fee, beginning today through September 30th. Payment may be submitted online at PayForIt.net or to Penny Eason in the counseling office. There is no makeup for this exam. The exam fee is non-refundable.
